1) The Innocence Files – This TV series investigates shocking expose as it is about eight cases about people who have been wrongly convicted of serious crimes that the Innocence Project and organizations within the Innocence Network have uncovered and worked to overturn. The reason why this tv show is one of my favourites is because it was fascinating on how they work on these cases in America. It is easily bingeable and it is only 9 episodes and the illegal process in America is made clear and shockingly concise. It is also an amazing insight how much of the of America’s justice system is corrupt and its prison system monetarised leading to inequalities. This mini-series is a must watch in my books as it was thought provoking and intriguing.
2) Jeffery Epstein: Filthy Rich – This horrific documentary shows an individual with wealth and power can abuse underage girls for decades while the world looked away. Epstein cultivated friendships with Politian’s such as Bill Clinton and Donald Trump, Prince Andrew and disguised his crimes using the front of Giselle Maxwell to normalise his behaviour. Indeed, Maxwell aided and abetted this crime by finding underaged girls for him. There is definitely more to Epstein’s case highlighted by his suspicious suicide in prison awaiting trial. This film got a 82% approval on Rotten Tomatoes which I felt was a fair reflection of this important film.
3) The Tinder Swindler – This film is fascinating as it gives an insight into the dangers of social media. More importantly how love on the internet can go wrong. The story focuses on a man who pretends to be a wealthy playboy who wooed women on Tinder and conned them out of millions of pounds. After this film was released from Netflix this year it got a lot of attraction, and it enjoyed a word-of-mouth success. I found this film very good as it didn’t have any dull moments and the way that they unfold each story of the three girls experience was captivating. The films weakness is that, the protagonist, Simon Leviev seemed to get away with it and only was in prison for 5 months. Overall, I feel that this film is good, but I wouldn’t watch it again.
4) Athlete A – This true crime documentary is about USA gymnasts and how their coaches and physios used their power, especially Larry Nassar who sexually abused these young girls. These girls were courageous and honest about their experiences under hugely expressive circumstances. It was disappointing to see that when the girls first told their coaches about it, they didn’t really do anything and in some cases covered it up which was shocking to see. This film was good as it showed the true colours of how the system allowed the coaches to abuse their position with little or no from authorities. Nassar got a life sentence for his crimes and the FBI how ignored the case is now being sued by thirteen women for $130 million. This was quite upsetting to see but the way that they told their stories was admirable and a inspiration to those who want to speak truth to power.
5) 13th – This film tells a story about the history of the racial inequalities in the US, and it focuses on the nation prisons and how they are disproportionate of African Americans. When watching this fascinating film, you realise how the prison system is based on running a business for profit rather than the rehabilitation of inmates. It also shows the injustice of the judicial system in America and how it is corrupt. This film is very informative and if you want to learn about being black in America then you should definitely watch this film. Also, you get educated watching this film which I liked, and you want to learn about new social issues affecting the world. The audience really liked this film as it got a 8.2 on IMDB and 97% on Rotten Tomatoes which shows that this film resounded with positively.
